Blushing Bride, Flowery Chignon
February 10th, 2010
This is a dramatic side chignon that I first found on Polka Dot Bride. The photo was taken by Todd Hunter McGaw. I love the story behind the flowers in the hair. The Australian bride discovered the flower called ‘Blushing Bride” at the recommendation of her photographer and loved it so much she incorporated it into many parts of her wedding – including her updo. I love small, personalized touches! The hair itself is very elegant and sophisticated but the flowers add a hint of softness and creativity.
Tips for a soft yet stable chignon:
- Be sure that your hair is soft and healthy.
- To achieve that, deep condition your hair a week before the wedding.
- The night before the wedding wash and dry your hair on low.
- Add a bit of Moroccan Oil Treatment from about an inch from the roots to the tips.
- Moroccan oil is a great product to keep shine and hydration locked into your hair.
- The top of your hair, from the roots down should stay almost product-free, to maintain softness and shine.
- To keep the chignon stable, though, have your stylist concentrate styling products such as hairspray on the ends and lower half of the hair.
- Communicate with your stylist. If it feels too loose, let him/her know!
Keeping hair flowers fresh:
- Add hair flowers last.
- The alcohol in hairspray and hair products can cause flowers to wilt.
