Shopping for Wedding Invitations

Shopping for Wedding Invitations

This wedding planning task may seem like a no brainer but there’s some surprising math involved. For example if you have 200 guests, how many invitations will  you need? Not 200! About 100 to be exact. Many of your wedding guests will be in couples and families, so don’t buy a surplus of wedding invitations – you won’t be able to reuse them.

More math – is the reception site 2630 McKinley or 2360 Mckinley – don’t make this mistake. Check and cross check your invitation addresses, phone numbers and names. Quiz, what’s your fiance’s middle name? Yeah, how do you spell that? Don’t make a silly mistake.

Since you’ll likely be buying around 100 invitations, decide on your budget. Trust me, you’ll be overwhelmed with all the choices so setting your maximum price will help eliminate some choices. Invitations can run between $40 and $1000 per 100 invitations. The wedding choice is yours.

Another helpful way to limit your choices: understand your wedding. Is it a casual outdoor affair? Is it a classic and elegant wedding? Choose a simple light-paper design for more casual affairs. Keep the colors light and airy (depending on your wedding decor). Signal to your guests the tone of the wedding. For more formal weddings choose a heavier invitation with a script font or fancy embellishments. Not only will this help you in the wedding invite selection, this will help the guests understand what to wear to your wedding affair.

It’s all in the paper. The paper weight and type play a role in the price. So focus on the paper first. For example lightweight 24 lb paper is an inexpensive option. Expensive paper is 80lb weight. Paper even comes in cotton or wood pulp. 100% cotton invitations are expensive yet elegant. Wood pulp is more affordable for your wedding.
